The All Progressives Congress (APC) has said it is recording a higher influx of young people into its membership compared to older Nigerians.
The National Chairman of the party, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, disclosed this on Tuesday during an interview on Politics Today, a programme aired on Channels Television.
According to Yilwatda, recent data from the party’s membership drive indicates a significant increase in youth participation.
“We have discovered that more young people are joining the APC than the elderly,” he said.
He explained that discussions about people returning to the APC are not centred on governors or political office holders, but on ordinary Nigerians who join the party on a daily basis.
“When we talk about people coming back to the APC, we are not talking about governors. We are talking about everyday Nigerians who move to the APC,” he stated.

Yilwatda noted that the party recently embarked on an electronic registration exercise and conducted sampling and opinion polls among its members.
“We carried out e-registration and did some sampling and opinion polls of our members, and we discovered that more young people are joining the APC than even the elderly,” he said.
He revealed that young people now account for about 49 per cent of those interested in the APC platform.
“They make up roughly about 50 per cent, which means about half of our members are between the ages of 18 and 35. This shows that we now have a youthful political party,” he added.
The APC chairman, however, pointed out that this was not the case in the past.
“Previously, the data showed that people within that age bracket were only about 21 to 23 per cent. So the question we should be asking is what is attracting more young people to the APC,” Yilwatda said.
