18-Year-Old Sani Becomes Nigeria’s Youngest Licensed Commercial Pilot

Nigeria has produced one of its youngest commercial pilots, 18-year-old Mohammed Aminu Sani, who recently earned a U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Commercial Multi-Engine Pilot License from Phoenix East Aviation (PEA) in Daytona Beach, Florida.

Sani completed the intensive training programme in just 10 months, passing every stage without a single checkride failure, a rare feat even among seasoned aviation trainees. His record reflects exceptional discipline, resilience, and focus.

“Becoming a pilot has always been my childhood dream, and today I’m proud to say I’m living that dream,” Sani said. “It’s been an incredible journey filled with hard work and passion. I hope my story inspires others to chase their dreams and never give up.”

Born and raised in Abuja, Nigeria, Sani attended Al-Hidaayah Academy and later The Regent College, Abuja, where he graduated with a Distinction in Economics Foundation before pursuing flight training in the United States.

At Phoenix East Aviation, one of the world’s top FAA Part 141 flight schools, he trained under diverse flying conditions, including night flights, cross-country missions, and instrument navigation through challenging weather. He logged over 50 hours on multi-engine aircraft, such as the PA-34-200 Seneca, and 30 hours of cross-country flight time, earning his FAA Commercial Pilot License (AMEL).

Sani’s achievement comes at a time when Nigeria’s youth are striving for global recognition through education and innovation.

His story underscores that age is no barrier to excellence and that determination can turn ambition into reality.

With his certification now complete, Sani hopes to join a leading international airline where he can continue learning, flying, and representing Nigeria among the world’s elite aviators.
