Nasarawa State Governor, Abdullahi Sule, has ordered an immediate investigation and arrest of health workers responsible for the diversion and sale of hospital equipment donated to a health facility in Umaisha Development Area of the state.
Sule gave the directive on Wednesday during the swearing-in of eight commissioners, special advisers, permanent secretaries and board members in Lafia, Nasarawa State.
He described the alleged sale of the equipment as a serious act of corruption, particularly because the items were meant to support people seeking medical care.
The governor directed the Commissioner for Health, Dr Gaza Gwamna, to investigate the matter and ensure that those responsible face appropriate punishment.
The equipment was reportedly donated by a member of the Nasarawa State House of Assembly representing the Umaisha/Ugya Constituency, Ibrahim Sa’ad who discovered that the hospital items he had donated were no longer available during a follow-up visit.

The alleged donated items included 50 orthopedic mattresses, 50 ceiling fans and more than 40 standing fans.
Sule Creates New Ministries
Sule also announced the creation of four new ministries as part of changes to his administration.
The new ministries are the Ministry of Tertiary and Technical Education, Ministry of Livestock Development, Ministry of Budget and Economic Planning, and Ministry of NGOs and Disaster Management.
Muhammad Nagogo was appointed Commissioner for Tertiary and Technical Education, while Umar Tunga returned as Commissioner for Livestock Development.
Ahmed Mohammed was assigned the Ministry of Budget and Economic Planning, while Mohammed Baba will oversee NGOs and Disaster Management.
Other commissioners appointed include Mohammed Oyigye for Agriculture and Water Resources; Nawani Aboki for Information, Culture and Tourism; Jibril Ibrahim for Youth and Sports Development; Ashefo Paul for Lands, Survey and Physical Planning; and Rabecca Kpadji for Women Affairs, Social Development and Humanitarian Affairs.
Commissioner Redeployed
The governor also redeployed Yakubu Kwanta from the Ministry of Youth and Sports Development to the Ministry of Works, Infrastructure and Housing.
Other commissioners retained their previous portfolios.
Sule urged the newly appointed officials to align their responsibilities with the policies and development objectives of his administration.
