Afreximbank Appoints George Elombi As Next President

Afreximbank’s shareholders have appointed Dr George Elombi as the Bank’s next President and Chairman of the Board of Directors, effective September 2025.

The announcement was made during the Bank’s 32nd Annual Meetings held in Abuja, Nigeria, on June 28, 2025.

A Cameroonian national and seasoned executive, Dr Elombi has been with the bank since 1996, rising through the ranks to become Executive Vice President, Governance, Legal and Corporate Services.

He succeeds Prof. Benedict Oramah, who has led the bank since 2015.

Dr Elombi brings a deep understanding of the bank’s mission and structure, having played a central role in shaping Afreximbank Group’s structure, legal and institutional frameworks, expanding its capital base, and leading crisis response efforts across Africa and the Caribbean.

“I see Afreximbank as a force for industrialising Africa and for regaining the dignity of Africans wherever they are,” he said during his acceptance remarks.
