Ubuntu Tribe Founder to Spotlight Blockchain, AI for Africa at Cryptofest

Mamadou Kwidjim Toure, founder of Ubuntu Tribe and named one of Forbes’ Top 10 Most Influential Men in Africa, will speak at Cryptofest South Africa on how blockchain and artificial intelligence (AI) can foster inclusive growth, transparency, and sustainable prosperity across the continent.

Ubuntu Tribe’s recently released Gold for All Report suggests that tokenized gold could unlock $50 billion for Africa’s unbanked within five years. The report examines global gold markets and urges Africa to lead in creating more transparent, accessible financial systems.

Africa loses over 400 tonnes of gold annually to smuggling, representing more than 10% of global output. The report calls this the “elephant in the gold pipe” and advocates on-chain traceability to curb illicit flows and return value to miners and local economies.

Before founding Ubuntu Tribe, Toure spent over a decade in development finance with multilateral institutions in Washington, D.C. He left the sector, citing systemic exclusion of underserved communities.

“I worked in development finance to level the playing field, but I realized the system perpetuated exclusion. That’s when I knew we needed something different,” Toure said.

Ubuntu Tribe’s $GIFT Gold addresses a major barrier: owning physical gold typically requires a large capital outlay about $65,000 for a standard bar.

Through tokenization, $GIFT Gold allows ownership from $0.10 per token, with each representing one milligram of physical gold stored in audited vaults across Zurich, Stuttgart, Copenhagen, and Dubai. Tokens are backed by serialized, insured gold and the platform operates under European VASP licensing aligned with MiCA regulations.

At Cryptofest, one of Africa’s largest cryptocurrency and blockchain conferences, Toure will discuss how blockchain and AI can enhance financial inclusion, restore trust, and broaden access to assets historically concentrated among the wealthy.

Ubuntu Tribe is expanding across Africa, participating in major fintech and blockchain events this month, including the Africa Stablecoin Summit (Johannesburg, Nov 12–13), Africa Tech Week (Cape Town, Nov 12–14), and Crypto Fest (Cape Town, Nov 14). Toure will also represent the platform at the G20 / Global Policy House Forum in Johannesburg (Nov 22–23), engaging with central banks, regulators, and multilateral organizations.
