President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has decorated the newly appointed service chiefs with their elevated military ranks, formally empowering them to take full command of the nation’s Armed Forces.
In the ceremony, held in Abuja, Gen. Olufemi Olatubosun Oluyede was elevated from lieutenant general to general and confirmed as chief of defence staff. Chief of Army Staff, Waidi Shaibu, was promoted from Major General to Lieutenant General. Chief of Air Staff, Kevin Aneke, was promoted from Air Vice Marshal to Air Marshal. Chief of Naval Staff, Idi Abbas, was elevated from Rear Admiral to Vice Admiral.
Lt.-Gen. Emmanuel Undiendeye Undiendeye was promoted from Major General to Lieutenant General as Chief of Defence Intelligence.
President Tinubu, who announced a major shake-up of the nation’s security leadership last Friday, said the changes were necessary to strengthen Nigeria’s security architecture and enhance military efficiency.

In a message shared on his verified X handle, the President urged the Service Chiefs to deepen professionalism, vigilance, and unity across the Armed Forces as they work to secure the nation and uphold honour in service.
