A coordinated effort by Nigerian security forces has successfully foiled a large-scale daytime attack by suspected bandits in Kano State, killing two assailants and recovering over 500 rustled cattle.
The attempted raid occurred in Tsauri town, located in Shanono Local Government Area, where hundreds of bandits riding approximately 150 motorcycles stormed the community in a brazen daylight operation.
According to the Chairman of the Faruruwa Community Security Committee, Alhaji Yahya Bagobiri, the attackers targeted a Fulani herder who owned more than 2,000 cows, rustling a significant number before fleeing the area.
Bagobiri, who disclosed the incident during a telephone interview, commended the swift intervention of security operatives, particularly the police, revealing that he personally contacted the Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, who immediately activated a rapid response.
“The bandits invaded Tsauri and stole a large number of cattle. As soon as we got the information, we alerted nearby communities including Goron Dutse, Shanono, and Tsanyawa, while I contacted the Police Commissioner, who promptly directed security teams to act,” he said.

He further explained that a joint security team, comprising police personnel and members of the Kano Civilian Joint Task Force, quickly mobilised and intercepted the fleeing attackers. Some of the bandits were reportedly heading towards neighbouring Katsina State, while others attempted to escape within Kano.
The security operatives engaged the criminals, neutralising at least two of them and successfully recovering over 500 stolen cows.
Bagobiri expressed appreciation for the responsiveness of the security agencies, noting that their prompt action helped avert what could have been a major loss for the community.
“We are extremely happy with the way security agencies responded to our calls. Their swift action has continued to bring relative peace, considering what could have happened today,” he added.
The incident underscores ongoing security challenges in parts of northern Nigeria, while also highlighting the growing collaboration between local communities and security forces in combating banditry.
