Paul-Henri Sandaogo Damiba, Burkina Faso’s former transitional president and alleged mastermind of multiple coup attempts, has been arrested in Togo and expelled, local sources confirmed.
Damiba led the 2022 coup that ousted then-President Roch Marc Christian Kaboré, only to be overthrown eight months later by military leader Ibrahim Traoré, who remains in power.
Reports indicate that Damiba was detained in Lomé last week for his role in attempts to destabilise Burkina Faso. He was subsequently taken to the airport, though his next destination has not been disclosed.

Since going into exile in Togo, Damiba has faced accusations of plotting several coups and targeted assassinations. Burkinabe authorities said they foiled an attempt to assassinate Traoré on 3 January, citing confessions from alleged conspirators broadcast on state television.
Security officials allege that Damiba planned the killings of both civilian and military figures, with Traoré identified as the primary target. The arrest marks a significant step in Burkina Faso’s ongoing efforts to clamp down on plots against the government and maintain stability.
