Ojude Oba Festival Now a Platform for Driving Economic, Tourism Activities – FCMB Boss

Ojude Oba Festival Has Become a Platform for Driving, Economic, Tourism Activities – FCMB Boss

The Group Chief Executive of FCMB Group, Mr. Ladi Balogun, has described the Ojude Oba Festival as more than a cultural celebration, saying it has evolved into a major platform for economic activity, tourism promotion and community development in Ijebuland.

Balogun stated this in a goodwill message at the 2026 Ojude Oba Festival held in Ijebu-Ode, Ogun State, where thousands of participants, tourists and cultural enthusiasts gathered to celebrate the rich heritage of the Ijebu people.

The annual festival, one of Nigeria’s most celebrated cultural events, featured colourful displays by Regberegbe age-grade groups, who paraded in elaborate traditional attire while singing and dancing in honour of the Awujale royal institution.

The event also attracted visitors from across Nigeria and the Diaspora, reinforcing its status as a major cultural and tourism attraction.

Adding glamour to the occasion were several celebrities and entertainers, including Nollywood stars Eniola Badmus, Adeniyi Johnson, Mercy Aigbe, Femi Branch, Idowu Phillips and Dayo Amusa.

Also present were renowned waka musician Salawa Abeni and content creator Samuel Banks. At the same time, socialite and FCMB cultural ambassador Farooq Oreagba drew attention with his trademark horseback entrance and regal appearance.

FCMB’s Two-Decade Partnership

Balogun said FCMB has remained a proud sponsor and partner of the festival for more than two decades, reflecting the bank’s commitment to preserving cultural heritage and supporting community development.

According to him, the festival has grown beyond its traditional roots to become a significant driver of enterprise and economic activity.

“For over 20 years, FCMB has remained a committed partner of the Ojude Oba Festival. Our support amplifies a longstanding belief in the importance of preserving heritage, strengthening communities, and creating opportunities for inclusive and sustainable growth,” he said.

He added that the festival’s expanding influence continues to support livelihoods, strengthen local communities and reinforce values essential for the future development of Ijebuland.

Tribute to Late Awujale

The FCMB Group chief noted that the 2026 edition carried special significance as it honoured the legacy of the late Awujale and Paramount Ruler of Ijebuland, Sikiru Kayode Adetona, whose death in 2025 ended one of the longest and most influential royal reigns in Nigeria.

Balogun described the late monarch as a symbol of disciplined leadership, dignity and progress whose impact transformed both Ijebuland and the Ojude Oba Festival.

He said the late ruler elevated the profile of Ijebuland nationally and helped position the festival as a platform for culture, creativity, tourism, and economic growth.

Beyond cultural preservation, Balogun said the monarch championed education, development, unity and responsible leadership, ensuring that tradition remained aligned with the aspirations of future generations.

Balogun also praised the leadership of the Regent and Acting Awujale, Sonny Folorunsho Kuku, for providing stability during the transition period following the monarch’s passing.

He said the Regent’s stewardship and commitment to continuity reflect the enduring strength of the Ijebu traditional institution.

The FCMB chief further commended the Ojude Oba Festival Committee, the traditional institution and the people of Ijebuland for organising what he described as a successful celebration of culture, unity and progress.

He urged residents and stakeholders to uphold the values of excellence, service and unity in order to sustain the legacy of the late Awujale and advance the development of Ijebuland.
