The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has announced new measures to ensure smooth passenger movement at airports during the end-of-year travel rush.
FAAN’s Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, Mr. Henry Agbebire, said the authority conducted advanced traffic forecasts to prepare for the expected rise in passenger numbers.
He explained that FAAN developed a special seasonal plan through close work by its technical teams and partner agencies.
To reduce congestion, Agbebire said FAAN deployed an enhanced passenger support system. Trained staff, easily identified by branded shirts and jackets, now assist travellers with queue control and real-time information at key points.

FAAN also worked closely with security and border agencies, including the Nigeria Immigration Service and the Nigeria Customs Service, to speed up screening and reduce delays.
To manage congestion at arrival halls and vehicle pickup areas, FAAN introduced a dynamic security and traffic plan. Under the directive of the FAAN Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Mrs. Olubunmi Kuku, the authority added over 80 security personnel to improve crowd control and traffic flow.
Agbebire said the ongoing construction of a new terminal has reduced available space. However, FAAN has optimised existing facilities to keep operations running. He added that the temporary terminal will be ready by the second week of January.
FAAN applied its peak-season plan across all FAAN-managed domestic terminals. The plan includes extra ground staff, round-the-clock shifts, and close monitoring of key systems such as cooling and ventilation.
The authority is also working with domestic airlines to manage check-in queues and limit the impact of flight delays.

Agbebire said FAAN addresses passenger complaints and unethical practices through clear procedures and strong passenger awareness.
While the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority oversees airline compensation for delays and cancellations, FAAN focuses on airport-side support. This includes access to basic amenities and improved communication between passengers and airlines.
FAAN enforces a zero-tolerance policy on harassment and extortion. Officers now carry out active surveillance, while supervisors apply strict discipline where needed.
Agbebire advised passengers to arrive early, avoid banned items, and refuse unofficial payments. He added that FAAN placed QR codes at key locations to allow passengers to report issues instantly.

He said all agencies now work under a shared goal of fast and safe passenger processing during the peak season.
Agbebire appealed for public patience, noting that current challenges stem from major infrastructure upgrades. He assured travellers that FAAN remains focused on safety, security, and better service delivery.
