Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, has expressed concern over the low number of votes usually recorded in Aba during elections, saying the figures do not reflect the city’s large adult population.
The governor spoke during a church service at St. Paul’s Anglican Church, Abayi Ariaria, Aba, where he urged residents to participate in the ongoing Continuous Voters Registration (CVR) exercise.
Otti called on the people to not only register but also mobilise their families and friends to do the same, stressing that voter participation was critical to determining the future of the state.
He warned that failure to register and vote amounted to voting for the wrong leaders, noting that such negligence could return Abia State to what he described as “Egypt.”

“I want to appeal to you, when you compare the population of Aba with the number of votes that come out during elections, it is like darkness and daylight,” the governor said.
“I want to charge you, if you have not registered, please go and register. It is important. The only way you can ensure that we don’t go back to Egypt is for you to vote. You cannot vote if you are not registered.
“If you do not vote, you have voted for the wrong people. I’m not the one who said it; somebody said it, not voting is voting for the wrong person,” Otti added.
