Things To Know About Nigeria’s 23rd Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu

All is set for the swearing-in of Olatunji Disu as Nigeria’s 23rd Inspector-General of Police following his unanimous endorsement by the Nigeria Police Council (NPC).

Disu will be sworn in by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu before the meeting of the Federal Executive Council (FEC), according to the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.

The Police Council, chaired by the President, approved the appointment at a brief meeting held at the State House, Abuja, in compliance with provisions of the Police Act 2020, which mandates the Council to consider appointments of an Inspector-General of Police.

The Council comprises the President, 36 state governors, the Chairman of the Police Service Commission and the Inspector-General of Police.

Governors Back Appointment

Speaking after the meeting, Chairman of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum and Kwara State Governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, said the Council reviewed Disu’s performance records and credentials before approving his appointment.

“At the deliberations, we went through his records, his performance in office and his recommendations, and the Council was glad to approve him as Inspector-General of Police,” he said.

AbdulRazaq noted that Disu faces significant responsibilities, especially amid growing conversations around state policing.

“He has his work cut out for him, particularly in this age of discussions about state police. There are expectations from the 36 states and the FCT. We look forward to working with him,” he added.
