At least 162 people have died following a violent attack by gunmen in Woro village, Kwara State, one of Nigeria’s deadliest incidents in recent months.
The assault occurred Tuesday evening shortly after military operations targeted terrorist groups in the area. Victims, mainly local Muslims, were reportedly targeted for resisting extremist ideology.
Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, who confirmed the incident said President Bola Tinubu had approved the deployment of an army battalion to counter the attackers.

Homes, shops, and the palace of the village traditional ruler, whose whereabouts remain unknown, were set on fire.
The Red Cross continues search and rescue operations, while police and the state government attributed the violence to terrorist cells.
Several residents were injured while fleeing, and more casualties may be discovered.
