Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Tuggar, on Wednesday received Muhannad Halmouri, the Palestinian ambassador to Nigeria, during a courtesy visit to his office in Abuja.
Kimiebi Ebienfa, spokesperson of the ministry, said in a statement that the meeting focused on strengthening bilateral relations between Nigeria and Palestine.
According to the statement, the engagement formed part of ongoing diplomatic efforts to deepen ties between both countries and provided an opportunity to review consular, humanitarian and regional issues of mutual interest.
The Palestinian envoy expressed appreciation for Nigeria’s longstanding support for Palestinian sovereignty.
He briefed the minister on the humanitarian situation in Gaza, citing persistent security challenges and restrictions on access to humanitarian assistance.

Halmouri also acknowledged Nigeria’s support for resolving the conflict through peaceful means, in line with international law and ethical considerations.
The ambassador further conveyed the Palestinian government’s interest in a possible visit to Nigeria by Palestine’s minister of foreign affairs.
“He indicated that such a visit could involve high-level engagements and possible interactions with Nigeria’s National Assembly, in line with established diplomatic protocols,” the statement said.
Ebienfa noted that Tuggar reaffirmed Nigeria’s support for the Palestinian people and reiterated the country’s commitment to justice, peaceful coexistence and respect for international law.
The minister assured the ambassador that issues raised during the meeting would be considered through appropriate diplomatic and administrative channels, in line with Nigeria’s foreign policy objectives.
