The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ondo State has faulted Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa over the death of a teenager allegedly knocked down by the governor’s convoy during a visit to Akoko South-West Local Government Area.
The party alleged that the deceased, identified as Good Emiju, was run over by the governor’s convoy at Oka-Akoko while Aiyedatiwa was on a thank-you tour of communities in the council area.
In a statement issued on Thursday by its Director of Media and Public Communications, Wande Ajayi, the PDP criticised the governor for what it described as silence surrounding the incident. The party also expressed concern over what it said was the hurried burial of the deceased.
Ajayi said the PDP was demanding a transparent explanation from the state government, describing the continued silence as unacceptable, insensitive and disrespectful to the memory of the deceased and his family.
“According to credible accounts, the victim was first rushed to the General Hospital in Oka-Akoko, where medical personnel were allegedly unable to adequately manage the situation due to the deplorable state of the facility.

“He was thereafter transferred to the Federal Medical Centre, Owo, where he was pronounced dead. Shockingly, the young man has since been buried,” the statement said.
“To date, no official statement has been issued to inform the general public, clarify the facts surrounding the incident, or explain the circumstances under which a citizen lost his life in connection with a government convoy.”
The opposition party called on the state government to address the matter and provide full details of the incident.
Governor Aiyedatiwa Denies Involvement
However, Governor Aiyedatiwa has denied any involvement, insisting that his convoy was not responsible for the teenager’s death.
In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Communication and Strategy, Allen Sowore, the governor said the allegation was false.
“It is pertinent and necessary to categorically clarify that the Governor’s convoy was neither responsible for nor involved in any accident on that day, or on any day since the commencement of the Thank-You Tour across the 18 local government areas of the state,” the statement read.
The incident has continued to generate reactions in the state, with calls for clarity over the circumstances surrounding the teenager’s death.
