Former Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice Abubakar Malami, SAN has described his continued detention by the EFCC chairman, Ola Olukoyede, as based on Personal grudge.
Malami, through his media aide, Muhammed Bello Doka, said that the commission chief lacks moral and constitutional rights to detain or investigate him.
He said due to Malami’s sour relationship with the commission boss, the Ayo Salami committee now fuels hatred towards the former minister, aggravating his pursuit of a personal vendetta.
“No law in the country allows a man to investigate a suspect he had a long-standing frosty relationship with; detain or investigate him; his continued stay in the custody of EFCC constitutes bare human rights abuse.”
He insisted that the commission boss lacks moral and constitutional rights to investigate Malami because there already exists a personal dislike.
EFCC Boss Has No Right To Interfere in Malami’s Case
Doka stressed that the EFCC boss has no right to continue to preside over a matter that is legally untenable and indefensible between him and Malami; therefore, he should allow constitutional procedure to guide the matter, not continue to detain him without a cogent reason, which, if any, is driven by personal vendetta.
Malami, SAN, had earlier declared his readiness to meet all bail conditions imposed by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, insisting that he was not given the opportunity to perfect those conditions before his detention.
Despite his readiness, the former AGF is still being detained by the EFCC
In a statement issued on Sunday by his Special Assistant on Media, Mohammed Bello Doka, Malami’s office described the EFCC’s claim of non-compliance with bail conditions as misleading, stressing that the former justice minister has remained cooperative and respectful of constituted authority.

Malami was granted provisional bail after an initial interrogation on 28 November 2025.
On 8 December 2025, he was invited again and detained by the EFCC because he had not complied with the bail conditions.
He has remained in EFCC custody since that detention while the investigation continues.
