The Federal High Court in Abuja has rejected an application by detained Biafra agitator, Nnamdi Kanu, seeking to be moved from the Sokoto Correctional Centre to a custodial facility closer to the Federal Capital Territory.
Kanu, through the Legal Aid Council, had filed an ex-parte motion asking the court to order the Federal Government or the Nigerian Correctional Service to immediately transfer him to either Kuje prison in Abuja or the Keffi Custodial Centre in Nasarawa State.
He argued that relocating him would enable him to properly pursue his constitutional right of appeal.

As an alternative, he requested to be moved to any facility within the court’s immediate jurisdiction, including Suleja or Keffi.
However, Justice James Omotosho declined the request on Monday, ruling that the application could not be decided without hearing from the Federal Government.
The judge directed Kanu to convert the ex-parte motion into a motion on notice and to serve all parties accordingly.
Justice Omotosho fixed January 27, 2026, for the hearing of the motion.

Last week, the court also refused to recognise Kanu’s younger brother, Prince Emmanuel Kanu, who attempted to appear on his behalf despite not being a lawyer.
