President Bola Tinubu has forwarded a fresh list of 65 ambassadorial nominees to the Senate for confirmation.
The request, read during Thursday’s plenary by Senate President Godswill Akpabio, comprises 34 career ambassadors and high commissioners, as well as 31 non-career nominees, bringing the total to 65.
Among the non-career ambassadors nominated by President Tinubu are Ibok-Ete Ekwe Ibas, former Chief of Naval Staff and immediate past sole administrator of Rivers State; former lawmakers Senator Folasade Grace Bent (Adamawa), Senator Solomon Ita Enang (Akwa Ibom), and Senator Jimoh Ibrahim (Ondo).
Other nominees include Ita Enang, former senator; Chioma Ohakim, former First Lady of Imo State; and Abdulrahman Dambazau, former Minister of Interior and ex-Chief of Army Staff.
Among the notable career nominees are Sulu-Gambari Olatunde Ahmed from Kwara State and Segun Ige from Edo State.

The Senate had earlier screened three ambassadorial nominees—Kayode Are (Ogun), Aminu Dalhatu (Jigawa), and Ayodele Oke (Oyo)—whose names were sent last week. The newly submitted list has been referred to the Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs for screening within one week.
These names were not included in the earlier batch of 32 ambassadorial nominees released by the presidency.
The nominations were conveyed in a letter read by Senate President Godswill Akpabio during Thursday’s plenary session.
In the correspondence, Tinubu urged lawmakers to expedite the confirmation process to ensure key diplomatic posts are filled promptly.
Akpabio referred the list to the Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs, directing the panel to conclude its screening and report back within one week.
Previously, the president had nominated Reno Omokri, former presidential aide; Femi Fani-Kayode, former Aviation Minister; and Mahmood Yakubu, immediate past chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), as ambassadors.
