North-Central APC Forum Accuses Yilwatda of Blocking Gov Mutfwang’s Defection

Governor Caleb Mutfwang

The All Progressives Congress (APC) North-Central Forum has accused the APC National Chairman, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, of blocking Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang’s move to join the ruling party.

In a statement, the forum alleged that Yilwatda has failed to provide the needed leadership for the North-Central zone and is placing personal political ambitions above the party’s interests.

According to the group, the chairman’s resistance to Mutfwang’s defection stems from fears that the governor’s entry into the APC could threaten his own calculations ahead of the 2027 elections. The forum recalled that Yilwatda lost the 2023 governorship race in Plateau State to Mutfwang.

The forum also faulted Yilwatda’s recent appearance in a church where he reportedly claimed to represent Christians in the North-Central region, describing the comments as divisive and inconsistent with the party’s principles.

Chairman of the North-Central APC Forum, Alhaji Saleh Zazzaga, accused Yilwatda of lacking political depth, noting that he has never held an elected position.

He said the chairman’s actions were worsening internal rifts in Plateau State and across the region. The group urged the APC leadership to consider installing a more competent national chairman during the party’s proposed convention in December.
