Wike Faction Set To Hold Emergency Meeting As Anyanwu Rejects Expulsion

A faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) loyal to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has scheduled emergency meetings of the party’s Board of Trustees (BoT) and National Executive Committee (NEC) for Tuesday, November 18, 2025. The meetings come amid one of the party’s most severe internal crises in recent years.
The announcement was made through a notice issued on Monday by the factional National Secretary, Samuel Anyanwu, and shared on X by Wike’s media aide, Lere Olayinka.
The BoT session will hold at 11:00 a.m., while the NEC meeting is slated for 2:00 p.m. at the NEC Hall of the PDP National Secretariat, Wadata Plaza, Abuja.

“Attendance is very important as crucial matters will be discussed and addressed,” the notice stated, signaling the faction’s intention to challenge recent decisions by the party’s national leadership.
Expulsions Spark Controversy
The emergency meetings follow the PDP’s 2025 National Convention in Ibadan, Oyo State, where several high-profile members were expelled, including Wike, Anyanwu, former National Legal Adviser Kamaldeen Ajibade, former Ekiti State Governor Ayo Fayose, and Imo PDP Chairman Austin Nwachukwu.
The motion for expulsion was moved by former Deputy National Chairman (South), Bode George, and seconded by Bauchi State PDP Chairman Samaila Buga. Bauchi Governor Bala Mohammed, chairman of the PDP Governors’ Forum, put the motion to a voice vote, which delegates overwhelmingly supported, marking a decisive step in the party’s effort to discipline members accused of anti-party conduct.
Wike Camp Rejects Expulsion
Speaking on Channels Television’s Sunday Politics, Samuel Anyanwu dismissed the expulsion, calling the convention a “jamboree.” He argued that many states were unrepresented, with 16 states, including the entire Southeast, having not conducted congresses.

“Even the ones done earlier have not been communicated to INEC,” Anyanwu said. “When I heard someone celebrating at the convention, saying we must obey party rules, I laughed.”
He added that the committee announcing his expulsion, led by Tom Ikimi, lacked legal standing. Anyanwu cited prior court judgments in his favour, insisting there was no legitimate basis for his removal.
Longstanding Rift and Factionalisation
The PDP crisis has been deepening since the 2023 general elections. Wike’s rift with the national leadership first became public during the presidential primaries, where he accused the party of breaching rotational arrangements and favouring northern candidates.
The dispute widened after Wike accepted a ministerial appointment in the APC-led federal government—a move criticised by many PDP stakeholders as disloyal. Factionalisation in states such as Rivers, Imo, and Ekiti has further complicated unity efforts.
Tuesday’s emergency meetings are expected to intensify the confrontation within the PDP, raising the possibility of parallel leadership claims and protracted legal battles over the party’s control.
