Sanwo-Olu Hails Tinubu’s Govt As Lagos APC Endorses President for Second Term

Leaders and key stakeholders of the Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) have unanimously endorsed President Bola Tinubu for a second term in the 2027 general elections.

The endorsement was made during the 2025 APC Stakeholders’ Forum held on Tuesday at Eko Hotels and Suites, Victoria Island, Lagos.

The forum brought together Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu; his deputy, Dr. Obafemi Hamzat; Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa; former Minister of Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola (SAN); Chairman of the Governor’s Advisory Council (GAC), Prince Tajudeen Olusi; Senator Tokunbo Abiru; and Dolapo Badru, leader of the Lagos State Caucus in the House of Representatives.

Others in attendance included the APC National Chairman, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, represented by the National Secretary, Dr. Ajibola Basiru; Lagos APC Chairman, Pastor Cornelius Ojelabi; members of the State Assembly; local government chairmen; councillors; and other party stalwarts.

Sanwo-Olu Leads Call for Tinubu’s Re-election

Leading the endorsement, Governor Sanwo-Olu commended President Tinubu’s leadership, describing his performance in less than two years as “transformational and far-reaching.”

“President Tinubu has surpassed expectations within a short period,” he said. “His leadership has set the foundation for sustainable economic reforms. Lagos APC stands firmly behind him for a second term in 2027.”

The governor’s deputy earlier presented the state administration’s scorecard, highlighting achievements in infrastructure, social welfare, and job creation.

Fashola, Olusi Advocate Member Reward System

Former Governor Babatunde Fashola (SAN) called for the establishment of a structured reward system within the party to sustain loyalty and encourage active participation.

“We must recognise and reward members who dedicate their time and resources to ensure APC’s success,” Fashola said. “Despite rising voter registration, turnout has continued to decline. Lagos once recorded over 1.5 million active voters compared to our closest rival’s 300,000. We must address what has changed.”

He noted that only about 30 percent of the country’s 93 million registered voters participated in the 2023 general elections, describing the trend as unhealthy for democracy.

GAC Chairman, Prince Tajudeen Olusi, urged elected officials to strengthen their relationship with the grassroots. “Some of our representatives have grown distant from the people. We must reconnect with our communities to build trust and unity,” he said.

Ojelabi Unveils Cash Incentives and Refund Plan

State APC Chairman, Pastor Cornelius Ojelabi, praised members for their steadfastness and commitment, describing them as “the backbone of the party’s success.”

He announced a ₦20 million prize for the local government with the highest number of new voter registrations and ₦5 million for the best-performing political ward.

“The journey to 2027 begins now,” Ojelabi said. “Let us mobilise more people to register and collect their PVCs. Every vote will count.”

He also disclosed that the party would refund nomination fees to aspirants who lost in the last council elections after the completion of aide appointments in all 57 councils. “Those not picked as aides will be refunded accordingly,” he stated.

APC National Leadership, Lawmakers Back Tinubu

Representing the APC National Chairman, Dr. Basiru urged members to intensify youth engagement and promote the Renewed Hope Agenda.

“We must continue to sensitise Nigerians about the administration’s achievements. The defection of opposition governors to APC does not mean Nigeria is becoming a one-party state. Every citizen still enjoys political freedom,” he said.

Senator Tokunbo Abiru and Hon. Dolapo Badru reaffirmed federal lawmakers’ commitment to the success of Tinubu’s administration, while Minister of State for Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, presented the achievements of his ministry under the Renewed Hope Agenda.

The forum also served as a platform for feedback and accountability, with lawmakers and appointees presenting stewardship reports and reaffirming the readiness of the Lagos APC to deliver another landslide victory for President Tinubu in 2027.
