The Taraba State chapter of the Labour Party (LP) has inaugurated a caretaker committee to oversee its affairs following the expiration of the tenure of its former executives.
The inauguration ceremony, held on Monday at the party’s state secretariat in Jalingo, attracted party leaders, members, and supporters from across the state.
Outgoing Chairperson, Dr (Mrs) Esther Johnson Gulmu, who now serves as Deputy National Vice Chairman, North East, described the event as a moment of reflection and renewal for the party.
She said the transition represented “gratitude, unity, and continuity”, reaffirming the Labour Party’s commitment to democratic values and internal stability.
Dr Gulmu commended the outgoing executive for their dedication and urged the new leadership to strengthen the party’s structures across Taraba.

In his acceptance speech, the newly appointed caretaker chairman, Rev. Simon Zubairu, expressed appreciation to the party’s National Secretariat for the confidence reposed in the committee.
He pledged to justify the trust placed in them, promising a leadership focused on unity, inclusiveness, and progress. Zubairu also praised Governor Agbu Kefas for his peacebuilding efforts in the state.
Other members of the caretaker committee include Augustine Bazin, James Benjamin, Andrew Audu, Deborah Chenny, Lydia Johnson, Emmanuel Peter, Zinox Enoch, Buba Yaro, and Hajiya Fatima Muhammed.
Party members who spoke to Daily Post expressed optimism about the new leadership, describing it as a fresh opportunity to reposition the Labour Party for future success in Taraba State.
