A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kano State, Dr. Musa Iliyasu Kwankwaso, has described former Kaduna State governor, Nasir El-Rufai, as “an expired politician” who relies on desperation, blackmail and falsehood to achieve his ambitions.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, Kwankwaso accused El-Rufai of spreading lies against President Bola Tinubu and other political leaders. He maintained that Nigerians and political observers were already aware of the former governor’s schemes, which he said had consistently failed.

Kwankwaso alleged that El-Rufai’s activities were aimed at undermining President Tinubu and destabilising the political space ahead of the 2027 elections. He dismissed speculation about alternative presidential contenders, insisting that none of those positioning themselves could match Tinubu, given their past records.
According to him, El-Rufai’s waning influence was exposed during the recent by-election in Kaduna State, which he said demonstrated the former governor’s lack of grassroots support.

The APC chieftain warned that El-Rufai could not derail Tinubu’s chances in 2027 as he allegedly did to former President Goodluck Jonathan in 2015 by exploiting issues of poverty, insecurity and economic hardship. He noted that the tactics used in 2015 would not work again, as Nigerians now understood the difference between leaders committed to peace and progress and those pursuing selfish agendas.
