ADC Disowns Nafi’u Bala’s Claim as National Chairman

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has dismissed the self-proclamation of Hon. Nafi’u Bala as the party’s national chairman, describing his claim as baseless and misleading.

Bala, who served as the party’s Deputy National Chairman until his resignation in May 2025, had on Wednesday night addressed a press conference in Abuja where he declared himself interim national chairman. He accused the current leadership under David Mark of violating the party’s constitution and taking over its structure unlawfully, which he termed “political hooliganism.”

Citing provisions in the party’s constitution, Bala argued that he had the authority to assume the role of interim leader following what he described as a leadership vacuum.

However, the ADC, through its National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, rejected Bala’s claims and reaffirmed that he no longer holds any position within the party.

To further buttress its position, the party released a copy of Bala’s resignation letter dated May 17, 2025. In the letter, Bala wrote:

“I, Nafi’u Bala, do hereby write to notify you of my resignation as member of the National Working Committee of our great party, African Democratic Congress, with effect from 26 May, 2025.”

Bala also stated in the letter that his resignation was intended to support coalition-building and restructuring efforts within the party, adding that he remained committed to the ADC and would be willing to serve in other capacities if called upon.

The ADC maintained that by resigning from the National Working Committee, Bala relinquished any constitutional authority to make leadership claims, including declaring himself as chairman. The party urged members and the public to disregard his announcement.
