The Director General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brigadier General Olakunle Nafiu, has urged Corps Members to accept their state postings in good faith and serve with dedication in their host communities.

While speaking to the 2025 Batch A Stream II Corps Members at the Lagos State Orientation Camp in Iyana-Ipaja, Brigadier General Nafiu emphasised the importance of national unity, discipline, and cultural tolerance during the service year.

Service to the Nation Is Key, DG Tells Corps Members

“Wherever you are posted to serve, be diligent, disciplined, and respectful. Nigeria is our common heritage, and your contribution is key to shaping the future we all desire,” the NYSC DG said.

He warned that misconduct and violations of NYSC regulations or Nigeria’s laws would not be tolerated, stressing that offenders will be duly sanctioned.

“Wherever you are posted, serve with diligence. Respect your host communities and give your best,” he advised.

He further warned that misconduct or disobedience to NYSC rules and Nigeria’s laws would attract disciplinary action.

NYSC DG Cautions Against Night Travels and Misconduct

The DG also advised Corps Members to avoid unauthorised journeys, especially travelling at night, and to always put safety first.

He encouraged them to make the most of their service year by engaging meaningfully in their host communities.

The DG encouraged corps members to embrace the cultures of their host communities.

“Every region of Nigeria has a unique heritage,” he said. “Understanding others helps build lasting peace.”

Lagos State Coordinator Gives Update on Orientation Exercise

Meanwhile, Lagos State Coordinator, Mrs Christianah Salmwang, reported that the camp registered 3,212 corps members. These included 1,250 males and 1,960 females.

Due to accommodation limitations at the Lagos camp, several Corps Members were posted to other states. Mrs Salmwang listed the dislodgement figures as follows:

Kwara State: 465 males, 651 females

Ekiti State: 502 males, 723 females

Ondo State: 291 males, 400 females

Osun State: 722 males, 921 females

This brings the total number of Corps Members deployed to Lagos for the 2025 Batch A Stream II Orientation to 7,887.

DG’s Visit Boosts Morale Among Corps Members

The Lagos State Coordinator affirmed that Brigadier General Nafiu’s visit served as a morale booster for the Corps Members, reaffirming the NYSC’s dedication to youth empowerment, national integration, and community development through service.
