The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has warned that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) may not be able to hold its forthcoming national convention unless ongoing internal disputes within the party are resolved.
The PDP had scheduled its convention to take place in Ibadan, Oyo State, in November.
However, Wike, speaking during his monthly media chat in Abuja on Monday, stressed that the problem was not about the venue but unresolved issues within the party ahead of the gathering.
“The issue of the national convention is not the problem,” Wike said. “The issue is the problems leading to the convention, and people should understand that.”

He disclosed that the PDP had already agreed to set up a committee to address grievances in the Southeast, particularly in Ebonyi State, and hinted that his team would be meeting later on Monday night to take a position.
Wike dismissed reports suggesting that his position was linked to a personal dispute with Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde.
According to him, the real concern was whether the party had addressed all necessary issues before convening the event.

“The venue is not the subject matter,” he said. “The subject matter is: have you done what you are supposed to do before holding that convention? Instead of reporting what we said accurately, some people are twisting it to mean I’m quarrelling with Seyi. That is not correct.”
Citing past examples, Wike reminded party members that PDP conventions had been held in different locations, including Port Harcourt and Abuja, adding that the party could choose any state, whether Sokoto or Borno, but warned that unresolved issues could undermine the process.
“If you have not done it, it may be a setback,” he cautioned. “From what I have learnt, the PDP has taken steps to see that the issues are being resolved. If they are resolved to the satisfaction of the complainants, no problem. But if not, of course, they will take action.”
The FCT Minister’s remarks come amid ongoing tension within the PDP over leadership disputes and zoning arrangements, raising uncertainty about the smooth conduct of its November convention.
