The All Progressives Congress (APC) has mocked former Vice President Atiku Abubakar over his criticism of the Rivers State local government elections on Saturday, saying he has “goofed again” with his allegations of foul play.
The ruling party, which clinched victory in 20 of the 23 local government areas, described Atiku’s comments as baseless and irresponsible. The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) managed to win three councils, while the African Democratic Congress (ADC), which Atiku backs, failed to secure a single seat.
In a statement issued in Abuja on Monday, APC National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, hailed the outcome as a clear endorsement of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
He commended party leaders, members and supporters for their efforts, while also thanking the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC) and security agencies for ensuring a peaceful and transparent process.
The APC urged the newly elected local government officials to focus on delivering tangible results for the people.

But the party reserved its harshest words for Atiku, accusing him of trying to incite unrest after what it described as his party’s “miserable no-show” at the polls.
“Atiku’s tirade is no more than a smokescreen meant to distract the public from another poor outing of his African Democratic Congress (ADC), and an attempt to stoke tension and strife in Rivers,” the statement read.
The APC labelled Atiku a “forlorn serial presidential contender” and urged Rivers residents to disregard his claims.
“Our gratitude remains with the Rivers electorate for their highly valued support. Together, we will build a stronger, more united Rivers State that works for the good of all,” the party added.
