2027: Kwankwaso Has No Say in NNPP Alliances – Majo

Factional National Chairman of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Dr. Agbo Major, has declared that former presidential candidate Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso has no authority to speak on the party’s alliances ahead of the 2027 elections.

Major was reacting to a statement by Kwankwaso at a meeting of his Kwankwasiyya group in Abuja on Thursday, where he said the NNPP remained open to political alliances in 2027.

The NNPP has been embroiled in a leadership tussle since after the 2023 general elections, with both factions laying claim to the party’s structure. While Kwankwaso and his movement insist they still hold sway, the Major-led faction maintains that the Memorandum of Understanding with the group expired after the polls and that Kwankwaso has since been expelled for alleged anti-party activities.

In a statement issued on Friday in Lagos, Major described the National Executive Council (NEC) meeting convened by the Kwankwasiyya group as “null and void,” adding that its resolutions could not override judgments of the Abia and Federal Capital Territory high courts on the NNPP leadership crisis.

He accused Kwankwaso of misusing the party’s name to make statements that could destabilise the country, citing his recent claim that the Federal Government had neglected the North in projects as an example.

Major further disclosed that the party was still awaiting the Independent National Electoral Commission’s response to its letter demanding that the commission upload the list of the new leadership that emerged from a court-ordered convention.

“Any Nigerian entering into any alliance with Kwankwaso and his group on the basis of NNPP will be doing so at their own risk,” he warned.

While stressing that the party remained open to collaborations with other political groups if necessary, Major insisted such alliances must not be driven by personal interests or vendettas.

He assured that NNPP would provide a level playing field for all aspirants through mandatory primaries, adding that the mistakes of 2023 would not be repeated.
