The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) says 131 cases of infrastructure vandalism were recorded across its network from January to November 2025.
TCN said despite this threat, it achieved a historic milestone in power transmission in 2025.
In a review of the outgoing year, the company said it recorded an all-time peak electricity generation in the third month of 2025, specifically reaching 5,801.84 MW on March 4.
TCN’s Managing Director and CEO, Sule Abdulaziz, stated that the milestone was achieved through investments in infrastructure repair, transformer capacity growth, and ongoing maintenance of transmission assets.
He said the company made deliberate efforts to strengthen transmission infrastructure by rehabilitating ageing assets and expanding transformer capacity across the country. With these efforts, he said, TCN’s wheeling capability has grown to 8,700 MW.
“A highlight of our progress came on March 4, 2025, when TCN transmitted an all-time peak generation of 5,801.84 MW with a maximum daily energy of 128,370.75 MWh delivered nationwide, the highest ever recorded in the country’s history,” Abdulaziz stated.

In terms of infrastructure Expansion, the TCN MD said the company commissioned 82 new power transformers, adding over 8,500 MegaVolt-Ampere (MVA) to the national grid.
He said vandalism has remained a significant threat to ensuring grid stability. “From January to November 2025 alone, the company recorded 131 vandalism incidents across its network,” he stated.

The TCN MD assured that the management is working closely with the office of the National Security Adviser, security agencies, and community vigilante groups to curb this menace.
The company also plans to intensify public sensitisation campaigns and community engagement to protect critical infrastructure.
Looking ahead to 2026, Abdulaziz emphasized that TCN will build on 2025’s progress, focusing on accelerating projects, modernizing infrastructure, and deepening stakeholder collaboration to improve grid capacity and stability
