Following the reading of the allegations, Amaewhule announced that the notice of gross misconduct would be formally served on Governor Fubara within the next seven days, in line with constitutional provisions.

The development comes amid renewed political tensions between Fubara and his predecessor, Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

On December 5, 2025, a group of Rivers lawmakers led by Amaewhule announced their defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC). Days later, Fubara also formalised his defection from the PDP to the APC.

Despite the party realignments, the political rivalry between Wike and Fubara has continued, marked by sharp exchanges and veiled threats. The prolonged dispute culminated in the declaration of a state of emergency in Rivers State in March 2025.

Most members of the Rivers State House of Assembly are believed to remain loyal to Wike.
