The Oyo State House of Assembly has approved Governor Seyi Makinde’s request to proceed on annual leave from August 10 to September 11, with Deputy Governor Bayo Lawal to oversee the affairs of the state during the period.
The governor’s letter conveying the request was read during Thursday’s plenary by Deputy Speaker Muhammed Fadeyi, who presided over the session in the absence of Speaker Adebo Ogundoyin.
The Assembly unanimously approved the request and expressed confidence in Lawal’s ability to ensure continuity in governance while the governor is away.

Makinde is expected to resume official duties on September 14 after the vacation.
The lawmakers urged the deputy governor to oversee the day-to-day administration of the state and ensure government activities continue without disruption until the governor returns.
Speaking after the approval, Fadeyi wished Makinde a peaceful and refreshing vacation.
He also reaffirmed the Assembly’s commitment to maintaining a cordial working relationship with the executive in the interest of the people of Oyo State.
Fadeyi expressed confidence in the deputy governor’s capacity to provide effective leadership during the governor’s absence, describing the state’s governance structure as stable and capable of ensuring continuity in policy implementation.
