One person has been confirmed dead while 10 persons were rescued after a three-storey building collapsed in Satellite Town, Lagos State on Thursday morning.
The incident, which happened at Old Ojo Road, near Alakija Bus Stop, off the Lagos-Badagry Expressway, around 12 noon caused chaos among residents, who panicked and fled for safety.
In separate statements, the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service and Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) confirmed the rescue operations.
According to a statement issued on Thursday by its Permanent Secretary, Dr Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, LASEMA said a coordinated rescue operation was ongoing to locate and extricate victims trapped in the debris.
On its part, the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service said the rescued victims who sustained varying degrees of injuries have been handed over to medical personnel for necessary treatment.
The agency said it received a distress call about the building collapse incident at 11:37 am and immediately deployed its officials from the Ijegun-Egba Fire Station to the scene.
”The incident involves the collapse of a storey building, an existing residential structure occupied by multiple residents at the time of the incident,” the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service stated in a statement signed by its Controller General, Margaret Adeseye.
”As of the time of this report, 10 persons have been rescued alive with varying degrees of injuries and have been handed over to medical personnel for necessary treatment,” it added.

The agency further said Search and rescue operations are still ongoing as emergency responders continue efforts to locate, and evacuate any persons who may still be trapped under the debris.
It added that other agencies like Federal Fire Service, Nigeria Police Force, Nigerian Navy, Lagos Neighbourhood Safety Corps (LNSC), and the Nigerian Red Cross Society are also participating in the coordinated rescue operations.
