MultiChoice Officially Becomes Part of Canal+ Group

The digital media giant says the deal strengthens MultiChoice’s position across Africa with expanded global reach and resources.

 

MultiChoice has officially become a wholly owned subsidiary of Canal+, marking the completion of the acquisition and ushering in a new phase for one of Africa’s largest pay television operators.

The announcement was made in a statement by the Chief Executive Officer of Canal+ Africa and MultiChoice, David Mignot, who said the integration positions MultiChoice within a global media group with a broad international footprint.

According to Mignot, MultiChoice is now part of an international media organisation operating in 70 countries.

He noted that the Canal+ Group, which was founded in France, is listed on the London and Johannesburg stock exchanges, and maintains a strong presence across Africa with operations in more than 45 countries.

The company said the completed transaction will strengthen MultiChoice’s position in Africa’s media and entertainment industry by providing access to Canal+’s global resources, expertise and international capabilities.

It added that the integration reinforces the group’s long-term commitment to the African market and is expected to support future growth across the continent.

MultiChoice will continue to operate across sub-Saharan Africa through its flagship platforms, DStv and GOtv, delivering entertainment, sports and news content to millions of subscribers.
