George Moghalu, the Labour Party (LP) candidate in the 2025 Anambra governorship election, has resigned from the party.
Moghalu, a former managing director of the National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA), announced his resignation in a letter dated January 26, 2026.
The letter was addressed to the LP chairman of his ward, Uruagu, in Nnewi, Anambra state.
In the letter, Moghalu thanked the party at the ward, state and national levels for giving him the platform to contest the November 2025 off-cycle governorship election.
He said his resignation takes immediate effect.

“I bring you the good wishes of my family and write to formally inform you of my resignation from the Labour Party, effective January 26, 2026,” the letter read.
“Let me also thank the party, through you, for providing me the opportunity to use the Labour Party platform to contest the last governorship election of our state.

“Please accept, as always, the assurance of my sincere regards and kindly convey same to the members.”
Moghalu did not disclose the political party he intends to join.
His resignation comes after he rejected the outcome of the November 8, 2025 Anambra governorship election.
