Information Minister Idris Suspends Aide over Niger Governorship Permutations

Mohammed Idris, minister of information and national orientation, has suspended one of his aides, Sa’idu Enagi, over an unauthorised publication speculating about his political future.

Enagi was said to have authored an article titled ‘Malagi 2027’, in which he examined the prospects of the minister contesting the 2027 Niger State governorship election.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, Rabiu Ibrahim, special assistant on media to the minister, said the article was published without Idris’ knowledge or approval and does not represent his views.

“The write-up and all its contexts are hereby vehemently disclaimed,” the statement said.

According to Ibrahim, the minister remains fully focused on his responsibilities at the Federal Ministry of Information and National Orientation and is not involved in any political ambition or distraction.

“The Honourable Minister neither directed nor approved the publication. Members of the public are therefore advised to disregard the write-up,” he added.

Ibrahim said Enagi has been suspended with immediate effect, pending the outcome of an investigation into the publication.

He also noted that Idris enjoys a cordial working relationship with the governor of Niger State, Mohammed Umaru Bago, stressing that speculation about the 2027 election could undermine ongoing efforts to advance the interests of the state.

“The Honourable Minister and his home state governor maintain a positive and mutually beneficial relationship for the greater good of Niger State. Speculations about future elections are therefore inimical to these objectives,” the statement added.
