The Executive Committee of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Ward 4 in Sagamu Local Government Area of Ogun State, on Thursday reaffirmed the suspension of Senator Gbenga Daniel, representing Ogun East Senatorial District, declaring that the action remains valid despite the intervention of the party’s national leadership.
At a press conference held at the Ward Secretariat in Sabo, Sagamu, the ward leadership said the National Working Committee (NWC) has no authority to review, overturn, or set aside the suspension imposed by the appropriate party organs in Ogun State.
National Leadership Seeks to Halt Action
The position contrasts with the directive issued by the APC national leadership in a letter dated November 17, 2025, which instructed the Ogun State chapter to suspend further action regarding Daniel’s suspension pending a formal review by the NWC.
The letter, signed by the National Secretary, Senator Surajudeen Basiru, expressed concern about the suspension notice and noted that the NWC had not yet deliberated on the matter as stipulated under Articles 21.3(d) and (e) of the party constitution.
The Secretariat emphasised due process and stated that Senator Daniel “remains a bona fide member of the party” until the NWC concludes its review.
Ward Dismisses Senator’s Reaction
Addressing newsmen, Ward Secretary Durojaiye Oluwole dismissed a press statement issued by MJS Partners on behalf of Senator Daniel.
He said the clarification became necessary to restate the issues in contention.
According to him, the communication sent to the NWC by the Ogun State chapter originated from the suspension initiated at the ward level, following allegations of anti-party activities.

He said the decision was conveyed to the state leadership to enable a proper investigation after the senator allegedly ignored multiple invitations to defend himself.
Ward Cites Constitutional Backing
Oluwole argued that the APC constitution empowers the “Executive Committee Concerned”, whether at ward, local government, state, zonal or national level, to initiate disciplinary action, depending on the nature of the allegations.
He added that while Article 21(5)(vii) grants the NWC the power to suspend erring members, this provision does not invalidate the powers of other executive councils nor subject their decisions to NWC review.
He stressed that disciplinary decisions, including suspensions, are subject only to appeal as outlined in Article 21.4.
“For emphasis, no provision of Article 21(4) subjects the suspension of the senator to the overview of the National Working Committee,” he said.
Suspension Remains Binding
The ward declared that although Senator Daniel has not been expelled, his suspension remains effective and constitutionally unchallenged, resulting in a temporary halt to his rights, privileges, and obligations within the party.
Allegations of Anti-Party Activities
Oluwole linked the suspension to the last general elections, alleging that Senator Daniel openly worked against the APC and its candidates in Ogun State.
He further accused the senator of attempting to undermine proceedings at the Election Petitions Tribunal through actions described as hostile to party interests.
“These and many more are the unchallenged anti-party activities of the suspended senator,” he said.
Ward Maintains Position
The Ward 4 leadership concluded by affirming that Senator Gbenga Daniel’s suspension “remains in full effect” and restated its commitment to upholding discipline, fairness and due process within the party.
