The Federal High Court in Abuja has granted bail to former Attorney General of the federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, his son Abdulazeez Malami and wife Asabe Bashiru, with ₦200 million each.
Malami is being tried on a 16 count charge in a money laundering case of 8.7 billion naira instituted against him by the Economic and financial crimes Commission (EFCC).
He was earlier granted bail by a vacation judge in the sum of 500 million naira each along side his wife and son.
Immediately after the vacation judge granted him bail his case was transferred to a new judge, Justice Joyce Abdulmalik who has now granted him a fresh bail.
Malami, his son and wife are also expected to present two sureties each who much be owners of landed properties in Asokoro or Maitama.
They are also asked to submit their international passport to the deputy chief Registrar of the Federal high court in Abuja.
The bail application was filed by Malami’s lead council Joseph Daudu SAN.
The bail request was however not opposed by the EFCC Lawyer Jibrin Okutepa SAN.
