The 2023 presidential candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has said he is willing to serve as running mate to Peter Obi in the 2027 presidential election.
Kwankwaso made the declaration during an interview on Arise Television’s Prime Time programme, where he said he would gladly work with Obi, a former Anambra State governor, if picked by the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC).
According to him, both leaders have already agreed to work together to address the country’s worsening insecurity and restore peace across Nigeria.
“Both of us, my humble self and Peter Obi, have agreed to tackle the issue of insecurity head-on to ensure there is peace and stability in this country,” he said.

Responding to a question on whether he would accept the vice-presidential slot if Obi emerges as the party’s presidential candidate, Kwankwaso answered in the affirmative.
“If the party decides that I should be the running mate of any candidate from the south under the circumstances, I’d be happy to work together with him,” he said.
He added that he believes their alliance would offer Nigerians a credible alternative ahead of the next election cycle.
“Personally, I cannot remember any better combination, no matter how much time is given to find those who can beat us in terms of doing the right thing for this country,” he added.
Earlier this month, Obi, the 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party, and Kwankwaso officially joined the NDC after their exit from the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
