An Ogun State High Court sitting in Sagamu has stopped the state government from demolishing the residence and hotels belonging to former governor Otunba Gbenga Daniel.
The court issued an interim order restraining the government, its agents and representatives from tampering with the properties pending further hearing.
The ruling followed an ex parte motion and an affidavit of urgency filed by Daniel and his wife, Yeye Olufunke Daniel.
On July 8, 2025, officials from the Ministry of Urban and Regional Planning, through the State Planning and Development Authority, posted contravention and quit notices on the former governor’s Asoludero Court residence in Sagamu, Conference Hotels Limited in Sagamu, and its annex. The government alleged the buildings were constructed without planning permits or proper setbacks.

In suit number HCS/371/2025, the judge said immediate intervention was necessary to protect the claimants’ rights. The court barred the defendants and anyone acting on their behalf from enforcing the quit notice issued on August 8, 2025, or interfering with the claimants’ possession.
The Asoludero Court property covers about 1.659 hectares in Sagamu’s Government Reservation Area, now known as Awolowo Avenue. It is covered by a Certificate of Occupancy issued on January 20, 2010.
The judge also restrained the defendants from trespassing or disturbing the claimants’ quiet possession until the substantive motion is heard.
A similar interim order was issued in a separate suit concerning Conference Hotel Limited, Blue Chapel Limited, and other related properties. The court noted the urgency of the matter and barred any demolition or interference with the buildings, which are backed by valid Certificates of Occupancy.
Hearing of the applications for interlocutory injunctions has been fixed for August 19, 2025.
