The Presidency has responded to recent comments by United States President Donald Trump, stating that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is “well ahead” of what it described as an orchestrated political campaign unfolding in the U.S.
Presidential Adviser on Information and Strategy Bayo Onanuga made the remarks in a post on X on Sunday, following Trump’s designation of Nigeria as a “Country of Particular Concern” over alleged violence against Christians and claims that the government is failing to protect religious minorities.
Trump also threatened possible military action against Nigeria if the situation persists — a position strongly rejected by Nigerian authorities, who maintain that no religious group is being persecuted and that both Christians and Muslims have suffered from terrorism and banditry.

Reacting to Trump’s comments, Onanuga referenced Tinubu’s address last week to newly appointed service chiefs, noting that the President had already warned of evolving security threats and stressed the need for decisive military action across the country.
“President Bola Tinubu was well ahead of the orchestrated game unfolding in America,” Onanuga wrote. “As he told the new service chiefs on Thursday: ‘No more excuses. Nigerians want results.’”
He then quoted Tinubu’s speech to the security chiefs:
“Security threats are constantly evolving. We must not allow these new threats to fester. We must be decisive and proactive. Let us smash the new snakes right in the head.”
Tinubu also urged the armed forces to innovate, stay ahead of emerging threats, and deploy technology where needed, vowing to support the security services fully.

“I charge you to carry out your duties with patriotic zeal. Nigerians expect results, not excuses,” the President said.
The Presidency’s response comes as diplomatic attention intensifies following Trump’s comments, with the Federal Government insisting Nigeria remains committed to religious freedom, interfaith harmony, and the fight against terrorism.
