The Inspector-General of the Nigeria Police Force, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, on Monday decorated newly promoted Deputy Inspectors-General of Police (DIGs) and urged them to strengthen intelligence-led policing across the country.
Speaking during the ceremony, Disu charged the senior officers to deepen inter-agency collaboration and improve operational coordination among police commands.
The officers decorated include Zachariah Fera Achinyan, Zango Ibrahim Baba, Isyaku Mohammed, Margaret Agebe Ochalla, Mohammed Abdul Sulaiman, Kenechukwu Onwuemelie and Umar Shehu Nadada.
Another officer, Fayoade Adegoke, had received his decoration a week earlier.
Call for Leadership and Accountability
Disu said the promotion places the officers in critical leadership positions within the Force and comes with major responsibilities.
“Your leadership must inspire confidence within the Force and trust among the citizens we are sworn to protect. Let your tenure be defined by discipline, fairness, transparency and service,” he said.
He noted that the rank of Deputy Inspector-General represents one of the highest levels of professional trust in the police and requires integrity, courage and commitment to justice.
Addressing Emerging Security Threats
The police chief also urged the new DIGs to strengthen internal discipline and support ongoing reforms within the Force.
He pointed to growing security threats such as organised crime, cyber-enabled offences and violent criminal networks, stressing the need for strategic leadership.
“You must ensure our policing strategies remain responsive to the evolving security landscape,” Disu added.
