Dollar General (DG.N) raised its annual profit forecast after posting third-quarter earnings that beat analyst estimates, fueled by resilient demand at its discount stores and successful efforts to cut costs and manage inventory.
Shares rose about 5% premarket, adding to a 45% gain so far this year, as the company also increased its full-year comparable sales forecast.
A day earlier, rival Dollar Tree (DLTR.O) similarly raised its profit outlook, reflecting a broader trend: U.S. bargain hunters across income levels are flocking to dollar stores, seeking low prices amid economic uncertainty and a sluggish labor market.
Dollar General continues to resonate with its core customers households earning under $35,000 annually by keeping roughly 25% of its products at or below $1. At the same time, higher-income shoppers are contributing to robust overall demand, a trend also benefiting retail giants like Walmart (WMT.N).
