FAAN Confirms Fire Outbreak at Lagos Airport

The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has confirmed a fire outbreak at Terminal 2 of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos.

In a statement posted on its official X handle on Sunday, August 2, FAAN assured the public that emergency responders are on top of the situation.

It said that the incident triggered an immediate response from its Aerodrome Rescue and Firefighting Service (ARFFS), who are currently at the scene working diligently to fully contain the blaze.

The authority said there have been no reported casualties or loss of life resulting from the fire.

“The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) wishes to inform the public that a fire incident has occurred at Terminal 2 of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos,” part of FAAN’s statement reads.

“The FAAN Aerodrome Rescue and Firefighting Service (ARFFS) is currently responding to the incident and working diligently to contain the situation.

“There have been no reported casualties or loss of life. Further updates will be provided as more information becomes available.”

It said operations at the airport are being closely monitored as firefighters battle to prevent the flames from spreading to other sections of the terminal.

Passengers and airline operators have been advised to remain calm and cooperate with aviation officials on the ground.

Pinnacle Daily gathered that after temporal closure of the affected terminal, normal operations have resumed at the facility.

Reacting to the incident online, passengers who booked flights on Sunday expressed worry about possible delays.

Others called on the airport authorities to prioritise safety, stressing that the Lagos airport records many flights daily, while thousands of people use the facilities.
