The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has assured that security agencies will take firm action against anyone found culpable of vote buying and other electoral malpractices during the by-elections.
INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) in Ogun State, Saseyi Feyijimi, gave the assurance on Saturday in Sagamu while reacting to reports of vote buying allegedly involving some commission officials and political party members.
Feyijimi said a video in circulation showed officials and party faithful arrested with large sums of money suspected to be meant for election manipulation in the Remo Federal Constituency by-election.
She stated that security agencies were already handling the matter and promised to provide further details once she received an official report.

“INEC is confident that the security agencies will do the needful. As soon as I have the official report, I will forward it to our national headquarters,” she said.
The REC commended voters in the constituency for turning out early and conducting themselves peacefully.
She reiterated the commission’s commitment to transparency and impartiality in the electoral process.
The by-election in Remo Federal Constituency was held to fill the vacant seat left by the death of Adewunmi Onanuga, former Deputy Chief Whip of the House of Representatives, who died on January 15 after a brief illness.
