President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has said Nigerian-British heavyweight boxing champion Anthony Joshua is receiving the best possible medical care in Nigeria following an accident on the Lagos–Ibadan Motorway.
The President made this known on Monday in a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Mr Bayo Onanuga, after a telephone conversation with the boxer and his family.
Tinubu said he personally spoke with Joshua to commiserate with him over the accident, which claimed the lives of two of his associates.

“I spoke with AJ on the phone to personally convey my condolences over the death of his two associates. I wished him well and prayed for him. He assured me that he is receiving the best care in the hospital,” the President said.
He added that he also spoke with Joshua’s mother, offering prayers and words of comfort, noting that she expressed deep appreciation for the call.

The President further disclosed that he contacted Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun, who was present at the hospital, and received assurances that everything possible was being done to ensure Joshua received quality medical attention.
“I also spoke to Governor Dapo Abiodun, who was in the hospital with them. The governor assured me that he will do everything possible to ensure AJ receives the best possible attention,” Tinubu stated.

Earlier, in a message shared on his official X handle, the President, who is currently out of the country, expressed sympathy for the boxer and his family, describing Joshua as a national pride who has consistently shown courage, discipline and patriotism.
“I sympathise with you and your family as you bear the emotional weight of this unfortunate incident. In moments like this, we must encourage one another as brothers and sisters with a shared destiny,” the statement read.
President Tinubu also prayed for Joshua’s speedy recovery and for the repose of the souls of those who lost their lives in the accident.
Pinnacle Daily reports that Anthony Joshua was involved in a road accident on the Lagos–Ibadan Motorway on Monday. The Federal Road Safety Corps attributed the crash to overspeeding and wrongful overtaking.
