The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has thrown its weight behind the call by Southwest governors urging President Bola Tinubu to fast-track the creation of State Police as insecurity resurges in parts of the country.
Spokesman of the Lagos APC, Mogaji Seye Oladejo, described the position of the governors as “timely, forthright and pragmatic,” insisting that only those opposed to peace would reject the move.
In a statement on Tuesday, Oladejo said the Southwest has consistently championed the push for a modern, community-based security system capable of responding swiftly to emerging threats.
He noted that the renewed advocacy by the governors shows leadership, unity of purpose and a clear understanding of Nigeria’s current security challenges.

According to him, the call aligns with the long-standing progressive ideals of the party, stressing that “security must be local to be effective.”
Oladejo added that President Tinubu has demonstrated strong political will to overhaul and modernise Nigeria’s internal security structure, saying the governors’ position reinforces the President’s commitment to a “people-centred and technology-driven security system.”
He described the demand for State Police as “logical and inevitable,” given the growing complexity of insecurity nationwide.
State Policing Sure Way to Tackle Insecurity
“The security challenges facing the country require multi-layered policing solutions,” he said. “State Police, properly structured, professionally supervised and federally coordinated, will bring policing closer to communities, improve intelligence gathering and deter crime in real time.”
Oladejo further stated that the Southwest has continued to lead by example through initiatives like Amotekun and sustained investment in local security systems.

“The call for State Police is simply the next logical step. We reaffirm our full support for the Renewed Hope security reforms and the united stance of Southwest leaders. The security of our people is non-negotiable.
“The time for State Police is not just ripe, it is long overdue. The Lagos APC is fully aligned with this patriotic call and urges stakeholders nationwide to work with President Tinubu to deliver a safer and more secure Nigeria.”
