Kwara APC Chairman’s Wife, Daughter Kidnapped

Gunmen have abducted the wife and daughter of Alhaji Muhammad Swasun, Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Patigi Local Government Area of Kwara State.

The victims, identified as Hajiya Fatima, Swasun’s wife, and their daughter, Amina, were whisked away by a five-man gang of suspected kidnappers on Sunday night at their residence in the Sakpefu area of Patigi.

Pinnacle Daily gathered that the attackers scaled the fence into the chairman’s residence before opening fire indiscriminately to instill fear among residents. They then forced their way into one of the rooms, where they found the two victims, and whisked them away at gunpoint.

Confirming the incident in an interview with Vanguard on Monday, a member of the APC state executive council, who asked not to be named, said he had spoken with the chairman shortly after the abduction.

“It’s true that our chairman’s wife and daughter in Patigi were kidnapped last night. I spoke with him this morning. He said he was just lucky not to have been taken by the bandits, who scaled his fence and started shooting sporadically. They entered into one of the rooms, found his wife and daughter, and took them away while firing into the air,” the party official explained in a distressed tone.

Other party members also confirmed the abduction, saying the armed men operated for several minutes before escaping with their captives to an undisclosed location. “The bandits abducted his wife, Hajiya Fatima, and his daughter, Amina, and took them to an unknown destination,” one of them said.

Residents of Patigi and neighbouring communities expressed shock at the incident, noting that the local government and other parts of Kwara North have in recent months recorded repeated cases of abductions, with growing calls on the government and security agencies to intensify action against the menace.

When contacted on Monday, the Kwara State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Adekimi Ojo, confirmed to journalists that he had not yet been briefed about the incident. “I’m yet to be informed.

As of press time, no ransom demand had been made, and the whereabouts of the victims remained unknown.
