President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved a one-year extension of the tenure of the Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Mr Bashir Adewale Adeniyi.
Adeniyi, whose tenure was originally set to expire on August 31, 2025, will now remain in office until August 2026.
The announcement was contained in a statement issued Thursday by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga. The presidency stated that the extension will allow the customs boss to consolidate ongoing reforms and complete key initiatives aligned with the administration’s agenda.

According to the statement, the extension will support the modernisation of the Customs Service, the implementation of the National Single Window Project, and Nigeria’s commitments under the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).
“President Tinubu recognises Mr Adeniyi’s steadfast leadership and commitment to service,” the statement read. “The president is confident that this extension will further strengthen the Nigeria Customs Service in achieving its strategic mandate of trade facilitation, revenue generation, and border security.”
Adeniyi was appointed Comptroller-General in 2023.
