PDP Convention: Court Adjourns Case Again Amid Tight Security

The Oyo State High Court sitting in Ibadan has again adjourned the hearing of a suit challenging the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) planned National Convention.

The case, presided over by Justice Ladiran Akintola, was postponed to Wednesday, November 12, 2025, amid heavy security as journalists were barred from covering the proceedings.

Justice Akintola adjourned the hearing of the motion on notice filed by Folahan Malomo Adelabi against the PDP, its Acting National Chairman, Umar Iliya Damagum, and others.

Earlier Court Ruling Permitted Convention to Hold

Last week, the same court had ruled on an ex parte motion allowing the PDP to proceed with its scheduled National Convention in Ibadan while fixing November 10 for the substantive hearing.

During Monday’s sitting, after listening to submissions from counsel on both sides, Justice Akintola directed all parties to file and exchange their processes to enable effective commencement of the substantive hearing.

He subsequently adjourned the matter till Wednesday for the determination of all pending applications.

Claimant Seeks Order to Halt PDP Convention

The claimant, Folahan Malomo Adelabi, is seeking an order restraining the defendants, including Acting National Chairman Umar Iliya Damagum; Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri of Adamawa State (in his capacity as chairman of the PDP National Convention Organising Committee); and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), from taking any step that could hinder or frustrate the conduct of the planned convention.

The court had earlier directed the PDP leadership to strictly comply with the timetable, guidelines, and schedule of activities it released for the convention.

Journalists Barred from Courtroom

Journalists who arrived to cover the proceedings on Monday were denied access to the courtroom. Security operatives stationed at strategic points within the court premises prevented media personnel from entering, a development that further fuelled speculation about the growing tension surrounding the case.
