Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has dismissed reports linking him to the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), insisting that he remains a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Fubara stated this on Wednesday during an inspection of the newly completed General Hospital and the remodelled Neuropsychiatric Hospital in Rivers State amid growing political realignments ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The governor said recent media reports claiming he had dumped the APC for another political platform were false and misleading.
“I am a member of the All Progressives Congress and nothing has changed,” Fubara said.
He urged the public to ignore speculations and interpretations circulating on social media, maintaining that he remained committed to the ruling party.
“I’ve not gone anywhere. I’m still a member of the APC, and I remain a member. Whatever happens, what is important is supporting the overall interest of the party,” he added.
Rumours Intensified After Brother’s Defection
Speculation over the governor’s political future intensified last week after his brother, Blessing Fubara, defected to the NDC.
The development fuelled rumours that the governor and his supporters, including some House of Assembly aspirants reportedly dissatisfied with the APC screening process, were preparing to leave the party.

However, the governor’s latest remarks appear aimed at ending the speculation and reaffirming his loyalty to the APC ahead of the 2027 elections.
Governor Inspects Health Projects
During the visit, Fubara was taken round the health facilities by the Director of Medical Services in the Rivers State Ministry of Health, Dr Vincent Wachukwu, who conducted him through the wards, conference hall, ICT centre, students’ hostel and staff quarters.
The governor expressed satisfaction with the completion of the projects, describing them as part of efforts to improve healthcare delivery in the state.
He explained that the decision to rehabilitate the psychiatric hospital followed concerns over mental health challenges, while the construction of a general hospital became necessary because residents in the area lacked access to nearby healthcare facilities.
According to him, the nearest major medical facility available to residents had been the University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital, UPTH, which he said was too far for many communities.
‘Promise Made, Promise Fulfilled’
Fubara said the administration decided to utilise available space within the facility to establish a general hospital that would cater to residents of surrounding communities, including Rumuola and Rumuolumeni.
The governor described the projects as promises fulfilled by his administration and reiterated his commitment to policies that directly impact the lives of Rivers people.
“We’re happy because it is a promise made and a promise fulfilled. What is important is doing what will touch the lives of our people,” he said.
